What are Social Stories (Betta Stories)?

Social stories are a great resource to support children in developing a sense of safety through predictability. Though initially developed for neurodiverse populations, it can be extremely beneficial for those experiencing trauma.

How Betta Stories Work

Betta Stories provide a structured way of explaining a social situation before it occurs, so they know more of what to expect and ways to respond. It breaks down overwhelming tasks into a personalised narrative to reduce anxiety.

Situations may include:

  • Preparing for change- bedtime, dinner, bath time
  • Promoting emotional regulation
  • Hospital visits, return to school, change in living situation

Betta Days will write Betta Stories for you and your child

  • Trauma informed
  • Collaboration with family/significant others
  • 30-minute phone consultation/video call
  • Photos provided to support the development of book (confidentiality is paramount)
  • An Individualised book will be created.

The book will be addressed to the child and posted in gift wrapping.
Digital copies are also provided.
