Most couples wait too long to ask for help.
You don’t have to be in crisis to come to couples counselling. If something feels off between you, that’s reason enough.
Counselling for couples who want to get ahead of it
Relationships are living things. They grow, they shift, they go through seasons — and sometimes they need a bit of tending before the cracks become something harder to repair.
Couples counselling at Betta Days isn’t about sitting across from each other in a clinical office while someone referees an argument. It’s a warm, unhurried space where two people can slow down, actually hear each other, and figure out what’s getting in the way.
The Approach
My approach is trauma-informed and attachment-based, which means I’m always curious about what’s underneath the surface. Often the thing couples fight about isn’t really the thing. There’s usually something older, something quieter, sitting beneath it — and that’s what we gently work towards together.
I don’t work from a single script. I draw on what fits you as a couple: whether that’s slowing down communication patterns, building more safety between you, reconnecting with what brought you together, or learning how to navigate a specific season of stress — like parenting, loss, work pressure, or a major life change.
Is This For Us?
You might be ready for couples counselling if any of this sounds familiar:
- You keep having the same argument, and nothing really resolves
- You feel more like housemates than partners lately
- One or both of you shuts down when things get tense
- A big life change — a baby, a loss, a move — has shifted things between you
- You love each other but something just feels… off
- You want to build a stronger foundation before things get harder
- One of you has been through something difficult and it’s affecting the relationship
- You’re not sure you’re on the same page anymore — about the future, the family, or each other.
Often the way we fight in our relationship is the way we learned to cope
long before we met each other.
A trauma-informed lens means I’m looking deeper
When couples come to counselling, they often arrive with a presenting problem: “we can’t communicate,” “we never agree on parenting,” “trust has been broken.” Those things are real, and we’ll work on them.
But my training tells me to also ask: what did each person bring into this relationship from their own history? What does safety feel like for each of you? What happens in your nervous systems when conflict arrives?
Understanding this doesn’t mean excusing anything — it means we can work on the actual root, not just the symptoms. And it means both of you get to be understood, not just heard.
Sessions are held in person at our Kurri Kurri rooms. I work with all relationship structures and do not require both partners to attend every session — sometimes individual sessions alongside couples work is the most effective approach.
How couples counselling works at Betta Days
1. The Campfire Conversation
We start with a free introductory session — just the two of you and me, getting a feel for each other. No pressure, no agenda. You get to ask questions, I get to understand a little of your story, and we decide together if it’s a good fit.
2. Understanding your relationship
The early sessions are about slowing down and really mapping what’s happening between you — your patterns, your strengths, what each of you needs. This isn’t about assigning blame. It’s about building a shared picture.
3. Doing the work, together
This is where things shift. We work on what actually matters to you as a couple — whether that’s communication, rebuilding trust, managing conflict, or reconnecting with each other. We go at a pace that feels manageable, not overwhelming.
4. Taking it with you
The goal is never dependency on counselling. Everything we work on is designed to give you tools, understanding, and confidence that you carry into your relationship long after our sessions end.
You don’t have to wait until things feel broken.
A Campfire Conversation is free, low-pressure, and a genuinely good place to start. Come and see if this feels right for you.
